The more newborns I shoot the more I am drawn a different type of image than I have done in the past. I love those quiet moments between mom and baby. The ones where it looks as if it were 2 AM and mom is trying to soothe the baby back to sleep. Those are the ones that make me melt. My newborn images and the style of images I shoot of families are starting to merge. It only makes sense that if I love to see families in a field hugging and smooching on each other that I would want the same with my newborns. So here is the start of my transition. I will still shoot those images of baby alone everyone loves but my focus will be pulling the feeling of newness with mom and dad.

… you are loved. You may remember this family who I posted a little while back here. We loved each other so much we did it again two months later. Well, not really. Little bird was not in the best of moods during this shoot so we tried again and her smiles came through more on that shoot. I loved everything about this shoot even if she was not super happy to see me! Thank you S family for trusting me yet again to get these images of your little bird!

Where to even begin? I have known this mama ALL my life. We were best friends, then not, then best friends, then not! We had the best imagination of any children I know. We decorated and rearranged our playhouse 1,000,000 different ways and so we carry on the tradition into our own real homes now. I have so many fond memories with her that I can not believe I got the opportunity to photograph her family. I blogged her 2 years ago in a more urban setting here. Thanks for driving to me P family and having coffee with me before we even started. I wish I could do that with all my clients!

I felt this families heart long before I ever met them. This is actually shoot #2 with them and I chose to blog this one first bc it is the heart of who I am as a photographer. Give me love and a field and my world is complete. Our other session was a month prior and in their home. I was just as in love with some of those as I am these. Each session I felt brought out a different type of feel. I can not wait to share the other!

This is my new very own studio! I am so in love with this location and I thought it would be a perfect spot to shot this family!

What can I say about this family. We have known each other for quite a while. They were with us during all of Maddux’s struggles, we were there for all the birth’s of our kids. Minus little miss I who we missed by mere months until they finally decided to move back to the right side of the world! We started in Boston together, moved to CA together and now here in NC together. Where shall we go next?…. Nowhere! I am here to stay. I am so happy for you all that you extended your family by one more. Thanks for allowing me to be there and capture this little peanut. It was such a special day! {hugs}

running for anna… Raleigh child photographer

Here is beautiful Anna with her “mom warrior” from back in early spring. When I moved here I heard about her and her family and how they raise money for Down Syndrome for Duke Hospital through a foundation her mom started called Anna’s Angels. They are having their annual 5K on Sunday: info below. Please come out and support this family as they fight for more research for Down Syndrome.

Anna’s Angels Foundation was started in honor of Anna who has Down syndrome. Down syndrome is the most common genetic disorder affecting 1 out of every 733 children born. When Anna was eighteen months old she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, Anna is now nine years old and a thriving, beautiful little girl. Anna’s Angels is a fund under Duke Children’s Hospital and Health Center, the funds we raise all support cutting edge research at Duke. Since the inception of the Foundation in 2003 we have raised over $655,000 for Down syndrome research.

If there is one thing I learned while I was in Utah it was that that place is crawling with young kids with style. There were so many people walking around like they stepped off the pages of a J. Crew magazine. Well I would not call this style J. Crew but I can not think of what you call these 2 other than super cute. She actually reminded me a lot of myself and the shoes…. hello…. love them! Thanks for braving the heat and paparazzi around you that afternoon!
