as much as I love shooting a baby on a beanbag… I love a baby in a mommies arms so much better. This is the first post of my slow transition to a different type of newborn photography.

One where you can see life.

One where not everyone is set in the perfect spot.

One where the dogs and chaos are involved.

It is the image of what really happens when you come home. Babies yawning. Big brother not wanting to be photographed within 10 feet of his new sister. It is the behind the scenes shots that I love that others forget are so beautiful.

The more newborns I shoot the more I am drawn a different type of image than I have done in the past. I love those quiet moments between mom and baby. The ones where it looks as if it were 2 AM and mom is trying to soothe the baby back to sleep. Those are the ones that make me melt. My newborn images and the style of images I shoot of families are starting to merge. It only makes sense that if I love to see families in a field hugging and smooching on each other that I would want the same with my newborns. So here is the start of my transition. I will still shoot those images of baby alone everyone loves but my focus will be pulling the feeling of newness with mom and dad.

The more I see this family the more I realize how important images can be. I have been photographing this family for 3 years now. Each session brings something different and special and I can not get enough of them. The whole family session is coming this July so my brain is already working. She is beyond gorgeous and her boys are beyond sweet. Since this session I am embarrassed to say I have shot his 6 month pictures, but I never said I was fast at blogging. Here he is. More of the L family!

Where do I start with this little one? My best friend from childhood was blessed with this pumpkin a few months ago. I did gymnastics with his mom for years until we were separated by gyms, coaches and time. We became friends again in Jr High School and that was it. We have been friends ever since. We have too much history not to be! My goodness… we did rock the Jr High talent show!

Here he is lovely! He is beautiful!
